The Turf Terminators

I love the name of this business because it sounds like someone is going to come to your home and blow up your lawn: The Turf Terminators.  But, it is actually a really helpful business doing it's best to lower water usage across Southern California's grassy lawns.  The number of times I have driven by homes watering their lawns in the middle of the day has actually made me want to start a Snapchat dedicated to cursing out these people from my car.  And I will admit, I have been known to report people to the Water Waste hotline, but when it's 85 degrees outside and I see sprinklers running I can't contain myself.

I wasn't aware of this, but according to Turf Terminators, "California's regional, municipal and local water authorities offer cash rebates to property owners who replace their grass with low-water-consuming landscape alternatives." Since the drought is becoming such a huge problem, a large chunk of funds has been dedicated to this initiative, and Turf Terminators is your best bet in re-landscaping your lawn at no cost to you!  I'm starting to sound like an infomercial, but this is a really incredible service that I would hope more people would use if they only knew it was available to them.

Turf Terminators come to your house, office, or campus to discuss the look you are going for and how much space you have.  The size of the lawn will determine how much money you will receive from the government rebate. Then you assign your rights to state-offered water rebates over to Turf Terminators, which is how they make money.  Next, they get all of the plants you'll need at wholesale prices thanks to their close relationships with local nurseries and suppliers.  Once it's all done, you'll have a new drought resistant lawn, save tons of money every year on water, and officially be a part of solving California's water crisis!

Those are some examples of drought resistant lawns and plants, some of which are from the Turf Terminators' website.  If you're thinking about giving them a call or re-landscaping your lawn yourself, here are a few sites to learn more about drought friendly plants and gardens to help you get an idea of what you will want your new garden to look like!
