2 Degrees Food & Farm LA

It's Eco-Tuesday! We made it through Monday and tomorrow I'm not working, so let's all be excited about that! For today's post I'm
sharing two businesses making this world a better place which
make them absolutely worth sharing.

Based out of San Francisco, 2 Degrees Food is a for-profit company with a mission to feed 200 million hungry children around the world by selling nutrition bars to people like you and me.  They follow a Buy-One-Give-One model, where they donate a meal to a child in need with every bar that is purchased. The idea behind the name is that we are only two degrees separated from a hungry child, all we need to do is buy their delicious bars, Cherry Almond is my favorite, and meals will be delivered to children around the world. The bars are all-natural, vegan, gluten free, low sodium, GMO Free, and kosher, so your only excuse not to try one is if you have a nut allergy.  I had the opportunity to work with the wonderful people behind the brand for my final project in grad school so I can say with confidence this is a company worth supporting!

Farm LA is a non-profit organization that buys vacant lots around Los Angeles and turns them into urban farms.  They acquire unwanted land that is a total eye-sore and plant beautiful fruits, vegetables, and herbs for the community to enjoy- genius. They also build solar farms on some of the properties, in an effort to help Los Angeles reach its goal of "generating 33% of its energy from renewable sources by 2020."   I've worked on some farms with my sister in the past (she's a farmer in Berkeley), and I really enjoy it, but it's much harder to find an urban farm to work on in LA.  Farm LA aspires to create that connection between humans and gardening in a city that is still in the process of becoming interested.  As silly as it sounds, I think it's therapeutic for everyone to just touch the earth every so often. We are always walking on concrete, in our apartments, in our cars, etc, and very little time, if any, is spent touching the natural earth.  This is nothing short of amazing for this city and I hope to see more gardens popping up around LA soon!

One last thing...
You may have seen this already, but this video warms my
heart so I'm making sure everyone sees it.

And it's about being a vegetarian so it relates to Eco-Tuesday :)

Have a good day!
