Health Kick

I've been feeling really down lately because I haven't been able to workout as much as I'm used to.  I rolled my ankle about two months ago and it's one of the things that will never really go away.  Any workouts involving pressure on my ankle, like running on a treadmill or crossfit classes, are out of the question right now and that narrows down my options quite a bit. I've been slowly gaining weight as a result of staying off of it to give my ankle time to heal, which leads to me saying really negative things about myself...something I'm trying hard to work on.

Yoga is something that always makes me feel good and it doesn't irritate my ankle as much as other forms of exercise; I think the balancing also strengthens it! I have been doing yoga on and off for about 7 years now and I love the way it stretches out your muscles to give you a longer, leaner looking body. So yesterday I decided to join the yoga studio in my neighborhood as a way of turning over a new leaf with a more positive appreciation of myself and my healthy body that allows me to do so much everyday.  So far, the two classes I've taken have relaxed me, given me the opportunity to center myself during that hour, and made me sweat from every single pore on my body.  I love that about yoga too, I sweat more than any other workout during my practice.  The studio, Modo Yoga, offers hot yoga in a few different ways and they have a great deal of $40 for the first month of unlimited classes, a popular offering at most exercise studios these days.  I'm going to go to one class each day for 30 days to really get this health kick going and I'll be posting updates along the way!

In addition to sweating it out, I'm sharing my green smoothie I've been making every morning for the past couple of weeks that will keep you full for hours and make you feel really good throughout the day for starting your morning off with so many fruits and veggies.  You can get all of the ingredients from Trader Joe's except for the Maca and Acai Powder I bought at Whole Foods.

My Green Smoothie

{ Ingredients }

Fruits & Veggies
1 small green apple
1/3 c. of frozen pineapple
2-3 celery stalks
1 kiwi
1 handful of spinach

Liquids
1-2 c. of Vanilla Coconut milk
1-2 tbsp. of Apple Cider Vinegar
1/2 c. of Water

Dry Ingredients
1 tbsp. of Maca Powder
1 tbsp. of Chia seeds
3 tbsp. of Vanilla Hemp Protein Powder
1 tbsp. of Acai Powder
A generous amount of cinnamon

1. Chop the fruits and veggies and add to the blender,
followed by the coconut milk and apple cider vinegar.

2. Then add the dry ingredients and the water last.

3. Then blend!

This is a large smoothie so drink it slowly and it will keep you full.  I'm lazy so I just put a straw in the blender and drink it straight from there, why have two dishes to clean?

Hope you enjoy my smoothie and if you're feeling down, do something today that will make you happy, whatever that may be! Remember, tomorrow is Friday!! Yay!
